Background:
SCSERD consists individual who are committed to be environmental activism, individuals who worked under existing NGO. (Somali Environmental protection association (SEPA). The two groups united, joined to form a bigger strong and eco-friendly team.
It is dedicated to cause sustainable management of the environmental, through training/awareness of the community and applying their endigenous knowledge then a process of joint learning was developed and improved the opportunities of setting-up management plans with the community.
MISSION STATEMENT
SCSERD is committed to increase resources management systems through promotion of public environmental awareness and advocacy and encourage with local communities to establish better management plans.
VISION
Is improving quality Of the life of the community through conservation of flora, fauna and promotion of productivity and production systems that are sustainable.
SOURCE OF FUNDINGS:
Gedo team receives funds from NOVIB Netherlands and FAO partner Organization.

Activities:
Training and awareness: -
The team usually conducts, training and awareness sessions among agro-pastoralists farmers and villages to increase the information dissemination activities of the following main topics.
Rainfall effectiveness.
- The Team put more emphasize on rock dams or other similar water breakages to minimize soil and water erosion and improve rainwater effectiveness.
Agro-forestry measures.
- The Team introduced new farming systems and incorporated tree plantations with farming activities to protect and increase Riverine forest trees and improve Agronomic measure, like crop management, early planting, Land preparation, crop rotation, intercropping.
Conflict Resolution.
The team undertakes resource conflict resolution activities, particularly in the drought periods and cropping season. Attempts to convince the farmers that the resource has no boundaries and pastoralists have the right to share resources with farmers when there is shortage of pasture. Or other natural disaster occurs.
Rangeland management.
The team conducted vegetation assessment surveys. Raised awareness of over grazing, collected data related to rainfall distribution.
It is also put on emphasized toward applied grazing systems, seasonal system, rotational grazing system, rangeland resting and reseeding systems.
Established with the community environmental orientation forums (4 forums).
Demonstrated animal trampling techniques in some areas to show the sustainable pasture regeneration methods.
Objectives:
- Improve quality of Life of the community through the promotion of productivity and production system that are sustainable.
- To work with local communities and encourage management practices that conserve land and river resources.
- To increase Public environmental awareness and the advocacy through training and Media etc.
- To generate environmental data collection and share information with other member organisations in the network.
- To support communities in resolving resource based conflicts.
- To monitor and document environmental changes in the teams coverage area.
- Eradication of poverty ensuring accesses to food by all population,strengthening livelihood and responding to food insecurity.
